Picton is the gateway to the Queen Charlotte Sounds and Marlborough's wine region. We recommend you spend at least 2 nights at Sennen House to experience some of the wealth of activities and opportunities our picturesque town has to offer, but be warned, you may want to stay much, much longer…..
Twilight Cruise – cruise the Marlborough Sounds with the Cougar Line sipping a glass of sauvignon blanc as you go. Departs 6pm
Twilight Paddle - wind down and get out onto the water for a few tranquil hours with Marlborough Sounds Adventure. Departs 4pm
Dine at Le Café on the waterfront
A.M. – Ekotour – cruise the Marlborough Sounds to Motuara Island bird sanctuary with Dolphin Watch Ecotours and see native marine and bird life. Explore Motuara Island with its wealth of native birds. Departs Picton harbour at 9am, returning at 12.30pm
P.M. – Wine Tour – immerse yourself in the heart of the vineyards with Sounds Connection and visit 4-5 venues. Departs at 1.30pm returns at 5.30pm
EVENING Dine at the Oxleys Restaurant
DAY 1 - Dolphin Cruise and Walk - combine a scenic dolphin cruise and a walk on Motuara Island bird sanctuary with a self-guided day walk on the Queen Charlotte Track with Dolphin Watch Ecotours. Departs 9am
DAY 2 – Gourmet Wine Tour – visit exclusive boutique wineries, take a food & wine matched lunch and visit Marlbroughâs chocolate factory on this indulgent day out with Sounds Connection. Departs 10.30am from Sennen House
DAY 2 – Marlborough Icons Tour - Experience all three Marlbrough Icons in one Day – Sauvignon blanc, Greenshell mussels and the Marlbrough Sounds. With Marlborough Travel Departs 9am from Sennen House
EVENING – Dine at the Chartroom Restaurant at Mercure Hotel.
DAY 3 - Kayak – take a full day exploring the beauty of the Marlborough Sounds with Marlborough Sounds Adventure. Departs 9am. Returns 4pm
DAY 3 – Cruise and walk the Queen Charlotte Sounds and Track with or the Cougar Line or Arrow Water Taxis or the Lochmara Lodge launch. Various departure and walk times available
DAY 3 - Kayak & Hike or Bike & Hike â experience the Marlbrough Sounds in a day with Wilderness Guides
EVENING - Dine at Spinnakers in Waikawa
Choose from the following self-drive options:
DAY 4 - Queen Charlotte DriveâHavelock-Wineries-Picton Take in stunning views of the Queen Charlotte Sounds, stop at secluded bays and lunch on green lipped mussels in Havelock. Sample a few wineries en route to Picton and return in time for a glass of wine at the Slip Inn.
DAY 4 - Historic Port Underwood Road Take in the scenic Marlborough Sounds view points, explore the marina and bay at Waikawa, then join the Port Underwood Road with its bays, historic Whaling sites and cob cottage. Stop for a swim at Whites Bay (take a picnic, or drive on to a winery) before heading back to Picton to choose a dining option.

Flying Visits – Explore further afield with Picton's Float Plane or with Soundsair
DAY 5 - Abel Tasman National Park – fly to the beautiful Abel Tasman with Picton’s floatplane, walk the track or have lunch at Awaroa Lodge
DAY 5 - D’Urville Island – take a flight over the Marlbrough Sounds and have lunch at D’Urville Island resort.
Day 5 - Wellington – take a day trip with Soundsair and explore New Zealand’s capital city. This 25 minute trip departs at various times each day.
DAY 6 - Relax – Spend a leisurely morning exploring the galleries, and gift shops of Picton. Visit the Edwin Fox and Picton museums. Take lunch at one of the cafes, or relax on deck with a glass of wine at the historic Echo ship.
In the afternoon, why not take a trek with Picton horse treks or amble along one of Picton’s many walking tracks such as the Snout with its stunning Marlborough Sounds views or the Tirohanga with its stunning elevated views of Picton.
